Jesus uses mud to heal the blind...

John 9:1-41

Mud in Your Eye (John 9:1-41)

As Jesus was leaving the Temple on the Sabbath, He came upon a beggar who had been blind since birth. Jesus’ disciples asked Jesus if it was the man or his parents that had sinned causing him to be born blind. Jesus said neither, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.  Jesus said He had to work the works of His Father who sent Him. He said, “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” He then spat on the ground, stooped down, and made clay with his saliva. He took the clay and anointed the eyes of the blind man and told him to go and wash in the pool of Siloam.

The blind man went and washed in the pool and immediately received his full sight. Neighbors were asking if he was the beggar or someone else. He said he was, but no longer because Jesus healed him.  The people brought him to the religious leaders, and they questioned him. They didn’t believe that he had been blind so-called for his parents. His parents came and confirmed that he was born blind since birth. The religious leaders were not happy with the situation. They said that Jesus was not a man from God because He did this on the Sabbath, which is against their religion. The people said He must be from God to do such miracles.

The religious leaders kept asking the parents how their son was healed. They said, ask him, he is of age and can answer for himself. Again, the man told them what happened. The religious leaders were upset and threw him out of their place. Jesus heard what happened and He went to find him. When He found him, He asked, “Do you believe in the Son of God?” He replied, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?” Jesus said, “You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.” The man said, “Lord, I believe!” and he worshiped Him.

Jesus said that He came into the world so that those who do not see, may see, and those that see may be made blind.  Some of the religious leaders heard what Jesus said and responded, “Are we blind also?”  Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would have no sin: but now you say, ‘We see.” Therefore, your sin remains.

Here we see Jesus healing a man by spitting and making clay and putting it on his eyes. The man had to take action by going and washing in the pool of Siloam. He was a beggar, never had sight in his whole life, but obeyed and received his sight. Unfortunately, the religious leaders were not excited about Jesus healing this poor beggar, especially on the Sabbath, a day when no one was allowed to work. They cared more about their religious rules and regulations and not on the miracle that transformed this man’s life. They could not see God’s love and compassion for those in need. Open your eyes and see that God loves you and wants the best for you. Receive His free gift of salvation, if you have not done so. And if you have, then share the good news for those in need. (John 3:16)

Personal Development Tip of the week:

There is a powerful saying that goes, “Whatever you focus on you feel.” Think about that for a moment. If you focus on what’s missing in your life you feel a sense of loss or that something is not right.

If you focus on what you have and what you can be grateful for you will feel that too.

As you go through your week pay attention to how you direct your focus because whatever you give attention and focus to becomes stronger.

Prayer for the week:

Thank you, Lord, for another great week. Thank God it’s Monday and thank you for wisdom today as we make numerous decisions. Bless us to be bold today in everything we do and to remember that the Joy of the Lord is our strength. Protect us from all harm and evil and guide us to have a great day in Jesus name amen!
