Doing the Right Thing: Esther 2 and 6

After Esther became the queen she had her own living quarters that were in a separate area from the kings. In those days the king had absolute power and although Esther was the queen and his wife, she could not go and visit her husband anytime she wanted. If she tried to see him without being called, she could lose her life. Mordecai, Esther’s Uncle, would sit in the king’s gates which was the entrance area of the palace. It was a busy area where a lot of community activities occurred. There, Mordecai could get messages to and from Esther and check on her well being. Mordecai was known as the Jew, but no-one knew his relationship with Queen Esther. Being obedient, Esther kept her secret of being a Jew.

One day Mordecai overheard two of the king’s doormen who were very angry and were plotting to harm him. Wanting to keep Esther safe, Mordecai sent a message to Esther to let the king know of the plot. There was an investigation that proved that these two had planned to harm the king. They were sentenced to death. Esther told the king that it was Mordecai who brought her the information. His deed was recorded in the book of the chronicles in the presence of the king. Although Mordecai was not rewarded immediately, a few years later the king had the record book read to him on an evening when he could not sleep. When the story of how Mordecai saved the king was read, the king asked what honor was given to him. Since nothing had been done, he planned to do something special to show his appreciation.

Although Mordecai was not rewarded right away for his good deed, he kept Esther safe. What would have happened if the king had been killed? Would Esther still be queen or would she have been killed as well? Mordecai did not know that God had a greater plan for him. He was faithful in doing the right thing. Sometimes we may think that doing the right thing is not a big deal, but the Bible says, “Therefore to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” (James 4:17) We don’t always do the right thing, but we can ask God to help us when the opportunity comes or when we fail.

Personal Development Tip Of The Week: “Know Your Circle”

  • Are you surrounding yourself with people who are positive and uplifting? Do they challenge you to better yourself and want the absolute best for you?

  • Take inventory this week of the people you spend time with and make sure you have people in your circle who love you and want the best for you.

  • There is a saying out there that says, “you are the average of 5 people you spend the most time with” so make sure you are surrounding yourself with people who love you and want the best for you.

Prayer for the week:

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray for your complete and total protection of this individual as they step into their week. I ask your lord to help them grow this week in the things they are working on and for you lord to open new doors of opportunity in their life. I pray lord that they continue to love themselves this year and to continue to protect their peace. Bless them to remember that no weapon formed against them shall prosper and that they can do all things through Christ which strengthens them. I pray for your healing over their life if they are facing any sickness or illness and for them to be healed from the top of their head to the bottom of their feet in Jesus name I claim Amen!
