Step Out of The Boat

Step Out of the Boat and Experience the Miraculous: Matt. 14:22-33

The ministry of Jesus attracted thousands of people at times. After one such event, Jesus told his disciples to take a boat to the other side of the Sea of Galilee while he dismissed the crowds that had come to hear and see Him. He would meet them later.

During the 4th watch (3am-6am) the disciples were only halfway across and were struggling due to the stormy conditions, high waves, and ripping winds.  Jesus was walking on the water and they were troubled saying it was a ghost. Jesus immediately spoke to them saying “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”

The disciple Peter immediately responded and said “if it’s really you Lord, tell me to come out to You on the water.” Jesus replied, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat and started walking on the water to Jesus. But then the wind started picking up again and Peter began to focus on it and fear came over him. He started sinking and cried out to Jesus to save him. Jesus stretched out his arm and caught him and said,” O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” As soon as they got to the boat, the wind stopped.

In life, we will experience stormy times that challenge us as we struggle to reach our goals and destination. Jesus wants us to know that we do not need to be afraid because He is always with us. He is our miracle-working Savior who wants us to believe and not doubt His Word. What a miracle for Peter who trusted Jesus’ word to “Come,” and when he got out of the boat he walked on the water to Jesus. It must have been an exhilarating experience to defy the laws of gravity and actually walk on the water. But, as in life, stormy conditions and challenges can shift our focus onto the surrounding circumstances which bring fear and we start to sink. Thank God, we can call on Jesus even when our faith is weak. He lifts us up and brings us peace and safety.

Take God’s Word, meditate, and speak it over your life and your circumstances. You can experience miracles too when you keep doubt out and unbelief out and focus on Jesus and His love for you. (Psalm 91:2; John 14:12-14)

Personal Development Tip of the Week: It’s time to go on a diet. And not the type of diet that consists of eating certain foods. I’m talking about a diet of the things you watch, the people you hang out with, and anything that influences your mind.

Ask yourself this week, what should I be letting go of or doing less of starting this week and take action to remove it for just this week.

I know I always feel better when I eliminate certain things from my life that are holding me back in any way.

Prayer for the week:

Dear Heavenly Father, I am praying over this individual's new week ahead. Thank God it’s Monday and I’m praying for you to open some new doors of opportunities this week for this individual. I pray that they remember they are a child of the most high God capable of doing all things through Christ which strengthens them. Bless them, protect them, and guide them this week lord to have a great week in Jesus name amen!
